Jerry Can 4.1/2 Gallon (20 litre) Used GS
Ref:
20 litre (4.1/2 gallon) fuel containers. Very well made Ex.War Department, pressed steel, indented for extra strength. The two halves are welded together so that the joint is protected.
The jerrycan was captured from the Germans (Jerries) by our forces during WWII.
It was then sent back to England, copied and manufactured for our own use.
One of the features of the jerrycan is the fact it can float on water when full of petrol, it being designed in such a way that there is enough air in the upper part to enable it to remain buoyant. They can also be lashed together to form a raft. The sensible shape allows them to be carried comfortably and stacked together to take up the minimum amount of space.
The fuel cap and neck, incorporating an air vent, are made so that the cap cannot be lost, and the design of the neck makes the task of topping up the vehicle fuel tank a lot easier, with as little wastage as possible.
